This year the litter-picking weekend will form part of a wider educational Clean Up Wilts campaign which will focus on litter from food-on-the-go, chewing gum and cigarette butts, as well as the community litter picks. The national Great British Spring Clean will take place on the weekend of 2nd to 4th March and we are keen for as many parishes, community groups, businesses and people as possible to take part again!
In the past few years, communities in RWB&C have held some outstanding clean-ups, with Cricklade even recognised nationally by the DCLG for one of the largest events in the county. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has championed the campaign and worked hard to help make these events both successful and fun!
In 2017 more than 3,200 volunteers took part in litter picks across the county, giving up their time to help make their communities a better place to live. In all, 152 litter picks took place throughout the county during the Great British Spring Clean weekend, when the volunteers collected 3,025 bags of rubbish, with 18.15 tonnes collected in total just in this weekend.
Please get in touch if you are on board and would like to take part or have any questions. I look forwards to supporting you with starting to organise the litter picks – thank you again!
